Options for volunteers

MAKE A difference in your com-
munity this summer by volun-
teering. The following are some of
the many volunteer opportunities
available through the North Shore
Information and Volunteer Centre.

GOOD communication | skills?
Become part of a heart education
community project. Volunteer will
heip organize and deliver ‘‘pood
health’? messages and programs to
the community. Hours are flexible.
A 1%-day training workshop will
be held in June.

GROUP facilitators over 25
years, with good listening and
communication skills are needed to
facilitate weekly mectings of a
North Shore self help group for
parents. The goals of the group in-
clude preventing child abuse, pro-
viding a safe, confidential en-
vironment and building a suppor-
tive group network. Hours are
flexible afternoons. Training pro-
vided in July and ongoing.

LIBRARY assistant. An art
therapy group needs a person with
good organizational skills to help
sort a library sharing system for
student papers and articles and to
help organize the library. This is a

Volunteer must be 17 years or

over.

INTERPRETERS with a second
language, preferably mid-Euro-
pean, are wanted to help interpret
the problems of residents in care
facilities and communicate with
the residents in their own lan-
guage. Hours are flexible.

COMMITTEE member. A
North Shore counselling centre is
looking for volunteers interested in
working on various committees
(membership, newsletter, market-
ing, special events, etc.). There is
also an opportunity to become a
board member. Volunteer should
be enthusiastic, have an interest in
counselling services and be willing
to make a one-year commitment.
