show and dinner at the Hote! Vancouver. A performance by a

phony Orchestra's annual
fundraising fashion show and
dinner a week ago Friday

turned out to be a star-studded
affair.

Unlike most big-ticket fashion
events, the evening's brightest
lights weren't the society mavens
and corporate bigwigs who lapped
up chilled marinara. grilled butter-
fly beef tenderloin and frozen
grapes (at $140 a plate). Star power
was provided by a 3,000-pound
fibre-optic curtain, airlifted from
Delaware, that enveloped the Hotel
Vancouver's British Columbia
Ballroom and bathed its inhabiiants
in a celestial glow.

High-energy music (taped, not
classical), bolstered by 120.000
kilowatts of power, accompanied
the runway presentation of fashions
from the Zolé Fashion Group-
owned Vancouver boutiques
Romeo Gigli, Versus, Istante and
the soon-to-open Boutique Zolé.

A highlight of the show was the
procession of models, shrouded in
darkness and carrying candles. who
wore pieces from Romeo Gigli’s
Persian-inspired fall line in soft
shapes and inky colors.

Items auctioned off during the
evening included a private box at
GM Place, which went for $1,800,
and a package for two to attend a
fashion show in Milan, a steal at
$4,600.
