Whereas the two-door coupe
seats five passengers, the convert-
ible seats four. Two bulky hous-
ings for the convertible-top
mechanism reduce the width of
“the rear seat by one person.

The Cavalier’s power-opcerated

top is very easy to use. By releas-
ing two latches above the side
windows and pressing a button
located near the rear-view mirror,
the top silently and quickly folds
down into a cavity behind the rear
seat.
_ Unlike the Camaro convertible,
there is no flip-up hard-plastic
boot to cover the folded top, but
there is a conventional button-
down vinyl tonneau cover, which
is stored in the trunk when not in
use.

The Cavalier’s top has a stand-
ard glass rear window with electric
defroster for easier rear visibility,
but rear three-quarter vision is
hampered by the lack of rear side
windows.

With the top down, wind buf-
feting in the front seats at speeds
under 100 kph is limited to a gen-
tle head massage, though rear
passengers will experience more
severe buffeting.
