Crime prevention week busy

mind getting their
hands on a few more
kids.

Cst. Colin Bursill, one of
those manning the West Van
Police display at the Park
Roval Mall, says there has
been considerable interest in
the display but that only a
tew parents have so. far
taken advantage of Opera-
tion Idenufication

Under that) program,
parents can have an iden-
ufication kit, including color
photograph and fingerprints,
put together for each of their
children. The hits are then
kept by parents in case they
are needed for identification.

As well as the Operation
Identification work being
carried out, the display
features a wide range of 1n-
formation from police and
ciuzens groups ranging from
Mothers Against Drunk
Driving (MADD) to the
United Way.

Other groups involved in-
clude the Child Abuse and
Research Centre, Women
Against Violence Against
Women, the Justice Institute
and the B.C. Crime Preven-
tion Society.

Police are also conducting
a crime prevention and
awareness survey throughout
the week

A second Crime Preven
tion Week event will be the
Citzens United for Safety
and Justice-sponsored televi-
sion show Thursday on cable
10 at? pm

The live phone-in show is
titled “Crime Prevention
A Community Affair”
