across N. Shore

season on

the North

Shore, but pay attention to the rules — they’re
different in all three municipalities.

Only the District of
North Vancouver allows
open burning of dry garden
refuse during the month of
April.

West Vancouver allows
burning of garden refuse on
any weekend in April.

And, in North Vancouver
City, you can only burn on
the weekends of April 7 and
8 and April 14 and 15.

The District of North
Vancouver has a _ set of
guidelines for outdoor bur-
ning that make sense in any
municipality.

They include: fires must
be attended by a competent
person, the fires must be
limited in size and a garden
hose must be nearby, the
amount of smoke and ash
from the fire must be
limited, wind should be

taken into account before
burning, the fire should be
located at least 20 feet away
from flammable structures
or trees and shrubs and such
fluids as gasoline should not
be used to get fires started.

Finally, the North Van-
couver District warns that
residents may be held liable
for any damage that comes
about as the result of out-
door burning that gets out of
hand
