Fireworks fizzle at school board meet If the 60-70 taxpayers who attended West Vancouver School Board's public “budget meeting” Thursday night were expecting fireworks, they went home disappointed. There were plenty of questions from the mostly middle-aged audience -- particularly on the theme of ever-increasing education costs at a time of declining school enrolment in the “aging” West Van com- munity. But for the most part the questions were smoothly ficlded by the four trustees present (Carl Hunter, Katherine Newman, Mark Sager and Audrey Sojonky), backed up by schools superintendent Ed Cartin and board = secretary- treasurer John = Casscy. Trustee Norman Alban was absent. The audience listened attentively to well rehearsed explanations of the board's approach to budgeting, and the question period, though busy, brought no dramatic confrontations.
