- Sunday, August 26, 1984 - North Shore News Hi mailbox DX] New faces Dear Editor: As a small entrepreneur, with no political affiliation of any kind, I have become more and more, deeply troubled by Canada’s ‘*freefall’’ fram a prosperous and progressive nation into a frustrated, confused and bankrupt country. For the first time in my life, I have decided to do something, however smaill, and have delivered this letter to my neighbours in the Lyn- nmour area of North Van- couver — firstly, to ask you to vote; and secondly, to ask you to think hard about what Quiz them on parole Dear Editor I hope that when the voters of N. Van-Burnaby, exercise their rights to vote on Sept. 4th, they will recall the one Liberal they elected. This former radio man asked all his constituents their wishes on capital punishment, through a voting form in the N.S. paper. And even though he received an 80 per cent ‘*Yes’’ vote, he voted ‘‘No’’ along with the Liberal government! Also remember, although we all desire ‘‘nuclear peace’’, we also desire peace of mind. The present P.M., Mr. Turner, was the justice minister who brought in the Law Reform Act that nwo allows criminals to walk the streets, repeating criminal offences, even though charged on previous offences. Police are not allowed to hold them. The onus used to be on the criminal to show why he should be released on bail. Now it’s the other way around, allowing every crook to commit even more crimes! No wonder the police need more men The paperwork must be horrendous, — re- arresting the same man over and over again If you want safety, and peace, on the streets, ask your candidate how he stands on these questions that L. Brian Seward North Vancouver kind of country you want to live in for the rest of this century. Without debating the pros and cons of the individuals in this election, | am convinced that Canada must, more than anything else, have a CHANGE of administration. If nothing else, a change will remove the party that has cruelly and cynically damag- ed the economic and moral fibre of Canada. The extent of Canada’s decline in 15 — years is hard to believe, when you think about it. Here we are — with fabulous resources, both human and natural — frustrated and worried about the future. Compare that to the 1960s when nothing seemed im- possible and everyone who wanted work could find it. Under the Liberal Party, Canada has been on a 15-year spending orgy of the most in- credibly stupid and un- productive scale. If you ran your home or business in similar fashion, you would be bankrupt and on welfare. Canada is. An entire nation is really no different than a household or business — just larger. We Canadians have collec- tively sat back and muttered and groaned about one travesty after another of Federal mismanagement, Would be ‘looney’ not to vote for Dear Editor { cannot let this election pass without making some observations on the sincerity of Brian Mulroney. He tries to create the impression he is genuinely interested in the plight of the unemployed but showed no regard for the tax- payer when he refurbished the Leader of the Opposi- tion’s house at a fabulous cost. He then had the temeri- Mad at Lynn liquor store Dear Editor: 1 would like to make a strong complaint about the customer service in the Lynn Valley liquor store. It seems if you return emp- ty beer bottles or cans, the customer MUST place them individually in the cardboard flats. Would someone please tell me why? 1 am not employed by the L.C.B. I was informed (very rude ly, | may add) unless I did so, 1 would not get my refund, to which 1 am entitled. If wt oas not the LC. .B. employee's job, then whose yob is 1? Do | now have to join the UNION to return my empties? (Mrs.) A. Baptie North Vancouver draperies by S. Laursen Turner ty to say he would only be there for a few months! Mackenzie King must be tuming over in his grave! Here was a man who led the country as Prime Minister for twenty-two years, who had no wife and not even a lover. Yet, he filled this office in a most competent manner guiding the country through some of its most trying and difficult times, his only solace being the odd chat with some departed spirit! If elected, by the time Mulroney repays his offshore friends, his French and trish colleagues in Quebec and the boys of the Davis blue machine in Ontario, there will be nothing left for the West. I voted Conservative for years but would be ‘‘looney”’ not to vote for Turner on September 4th. D.M. McLean West Vancouver (CPm not sure what | want, but Pil know when | see it)? Let's discuss tt START WITH OUR $100 ANALYSIS same record! distortion, outright lies, and political bungling, month in and month out. Now we have a chance to do something about it. No matter who gets elected in September, it is going to take a whole generation to get Canada out of the morass of national debt and mismanagement that the Liberal regime has placed us in. The future of your children and mine have already been mortgaged to the limit. Now what? Surely we cannot allow another term to the same tired and cynical political op- portunists who have almost destroyed. Canada’s economy and optimism. No photogenic ‘‘new’’ Liberal faces will change that record, and a Liberal Government will guarantee the only thing they do wel! exploit power, with utter con- tempt for the average Cana- dian, especially the Western Canadian. By now, you have pro- bably concluded that 1 am voting PC. In my opinion, it is something | must do, in spite of having grown up a Liberal. A vote for the NDP will probably risk a minority government, which will leave Canada in limbo _inter- nationally and investment- wise for another few years. And don’t forget that the NDP is really to blame for perpetuating the Trudeau regime. An NDP vote will simply scare off investment capital that Canada so desperately needs to create growth and employment. This is our last chance for five years to get this wonder- ful country of ours working properly, isn’t it? R.L. Hartin North Vancouver NOTE. Letter condensed for space reasons — ED. ST.
