A Year of New, High Quality
Learning Environments

The rich history and tradition of West Vancouver Secondary School
was complemented in 1999 by the additics: of a new state of the art
extension with 17 new classrooms. A beautiful and well-equipped
library is now at the heart of the school, and a film and television
studio has begun to prepare students for the city’s growing film
industry. This recent $7.2 million renovation is typical of district
facilities, which are among the province's finest. Canifeild Elementary
‘also completed an exciting addition containing six new classrooms
beautifully situated among the trees on its spectacular site.

The success of our children and youth results from the combined
efforts of our many partners, who share a passion for public
education in this community. .

“Most recently, working in partnership with the West Vancouver
Foundation, the school district organized and hosted a unique
conference - Building a Healthy and Caring Community Across the
Generations. More than 130 enthusiastic students, seniors, parents
‘and community leaders engaged in the development of a shared
vision of health, safety and well being.

The recent Provincial Learning

Network Report described West

Vancouver as a leader in the Province, and suggested that other districts
would benefit from an examination of school District 45’s path to success.

To monitor the West Vancouver School Board’s new vision and strategies
for the use of information technology in our schools, an independent,
year-long study of its role and effectiveness was begun by Wallbank-
Macfarlane-Tindall in the fall of 1999.
