| New lnd ONE of America’s greatest icons has been revived, according to Ray Sotelo, President of the Indian Motorcycle Company. The firss of the new Limited Edition 1999 Indian Chicts were loaded on the transport: for delivery across the U.S. last week with the debut oof the legendary motoreyele coming Jess than five months after the Indian Motorcycle Company secured rights to othe Indian Motorevele trademark. Prior to this landmark event, the Indian Chief was last seen in 1953. At that time, the leg: endary cruiser was built in Springtield, MA, site of the company’s origins in 1901. The new version is being produced at the company’s new 150,000-sq. ft. facility in Northern California. “Putting the first bikes on the truck was an amazing feeling, for everyone -involved,” Sotelo said in a press release. “Our team has worked very hard to get the 1999 Chief on the road and they deserve a great deal of cred- it.” The initial run of motorcy- cles is destined for seven loca- tions in seven U.S. markets including, Kirkland, WA. “There’s been an enor- mous amount of interest in the 1999 Chief,” savs Ed Pacelli, of New York City's Soho Cycle. “We're anticipat- ing the bikes won't even get to the showroom floor. It’s a superb bike with excellent design quatities.” The new bike appears at two American bike rallics next month. The Indian Motorcycle Company is the tide sponsor of one event, taking place 64 kilometres from Indian’s Gilroy, CA fac- tory.
