But West Vancouver lawyer Paul Hundal has run afoul’ of the long arm of the RCMP’s Port Mann Freeway Patrol. Hundal appeared before North Vancouver District Council Monday to press for designation of a bicycle route between Lloyd Avenue and Lonsdale Avenue on the Upper Levels, Hundal, who is a director of the Society for Promoting Environmental Conservation (SPEC), has previously appeared before council t- successfully lobby for the importance of making the Westview Interchange bicycle friendly Bur now that the inter- change is virtually complete, Hundal says the RCMP appear ° to have a new directive to tick- et cyclists using that section of the highway. Hundal says he will pursue a police complaint, given that a second speeding ticker for motorists does not come with criminal charges for obstruc- tion. Bicyeles have been allowed on the Upper Levels between Horseshoe Bay and Capilano Road for more than 20 years. He dismisses as “outtageous™ Transportation and Highways foot-dragging until the high- way is upgraded as far as the Save on Ministry of Second Narrows bridge. “There is no reason why at this time the highway can not be designated for cyclists berween Lloyd Avenue and Lyon Valley. The stretch between Capilano Road and Lloyd Avenue can be bypassed by going along a side road through Pemberton Heights,” says Hundal. Council did not debate the possibility of a bicycle route on the highway to Lynn Valley.
