Herbert Hedley “Bud” Bragg, affectionately known as Mr. Lonsdale by North Vancouver residents, made a clean sweep of life when he retired in 1986 after 11 years spent as Lonsdale Avenue’s street janitor. Mr. Bragg passed away on Jan. 25 at Lions Gate Hospital. He was 72. Mr. Bragg kept Lonsdale sidewalks spotlessly clean when he worked the street seven days a week. He would rise at 2 a.m. or 3 a.m. equipped with a hose, brooms and buckets. Mr. Bragg retired in December of 1986 after suffer- ing, an epileptic seizure at 12th and Lonsdale. At the time he had no plans for retirement, and he said he missed Lonsdale Avenue: it remained in his blood. Said Mr. Bragg at the time, “I guess you can work so hard you forget about everything g else. As they say, sometimes you just have to stop and smell the roses.” Mr. Bragg had lived on the North Shore since 1972. He was born in North Battleford Saskatchewan. He is survived by Jackie, his wife of 41 years, daugh- ter Nancy, brot Joseph and John. A memorial service is set for today at 1:30 p.m. at Kiwanis Tower, 170 W. 2nd St. in North Vancouver. MR. Lonsdale (Bud Bragg) kept Lonsdale sidewalks spotless. *CANADAS BEST PERFORMING FUND OVER 5 YEARS. PERIOD!
