Organizers of the first- ever multi-cultural food, drink and music extravaganza at Lonsdale Quay on Wednesday night say it was wildly successful and hope to make it an annu- al event. “We were overwhelmed by the sheer numbers,” said Elaine Mylett. marketing director at Fonsdale Quay, on the morning after the fere. Although the accounting hasn't vet been done, early estimates put the number of people at the event, which was sponsored by the News, at approximately 1.300. Proceeds go to the North Shore Multicultural Society. Mylett gives credit to the merchants at the Quay, who donat- ed food, displays, and time to the event. “They just really stepped up to the mark,” she said. “ Koji Japan just didn’t stop cooking, the sushi guy just kept on rolling. all the food merchants were wonderful.” A fashion show, including the latest fall styles as well as exotic ethnie costumes, was also 4 big hit. : — Deana Lancaster MULTICULTURAL Society president Bahman Shirazi and Shokat Baghafi share vegetarian lentil soup with guests.
