Business Bureau’: s inquiry stats in
1994, - :

., The Bureau’s slogan, “When in
- doubt, check it out” was tested by a
record 621,633 callers asking for
- business reliability reports on ‘spe-
cific’ companies and charities, an
‘increase of 23% over the previous
year, Yesterday the Better Business
Bureau released its list of the indus-
.tries that prompted the most queries

-— and those that received the most
complaints.

The most complained-about
industry: car dealerships. But deal-
ers also rated among the best for
settling disputes with customers,
with 91% addressing the problem,
the Bureau added.

The following industries drew
the ‘most before-purchase - queries
last. year to the Better Business
Bureau of Mainland B.C.

RADIO STATION KM3J recently
fired weatherman Sean Boyd for a
gloomy forecast.

The station maintains it had a
cumulative dissatisfaction with
him, but Boyd said the precipitating
incident was his refusal to forecast
good enough weather for the sta-
tion’s annual public picnic in honor
of Rush Limbaugh.

Boyd, an 18-year veteran, had
forecast “partly cloudy,” which
KMJ executives wanted changed to
“partly sunny” so as not to discour-
age attendance.

In March, after the president of
the Puerto Rico House of
Representatives accused him of
illegal drug usc, Sen. Freddie
Valentin denied the charge and led
reporters into a restroom in. the
capitol building in San Juan, where
he yielded a urine sample that he
later submitted to the Senate leader-
ship.
