Critics say it is not a good idea to ask kids as young as 12 questions about suicide, sex and drugs. Should North Shore schools fet kids take the survey? Will it tell us anything new? 9$80-KIDS Globocops scare world into submission LAST WEEK, while I was going through some of our old Time magazines, I came across one from about three years ago. The headline read something along the lines of ‘‘Into Panama!" Being a person who doesn’t approve of many Ameri- can foreign policy decisions, the writeup struck a chord in my mind. It set off a series of ques- tions about the United States, and all the times it had interfered di- rectly with another nation, A year and « half a go, the U.S. invaded Iraq. This is a quotation which, I think, per- sonifies the American's misconceived impression that they are actually needed to be, as Time quite nicely put it, ‘“Globocop." If America cares so much about democracy, about. freedom of thought, about letting people rule their own destiny, why does it impose, or should I say, express its strong belief in democracry, on other nations, using force, if needed? LAST WEEK ZAP! asked if you thought it would be better if high school-aged girls learn-’ ed in a girls-only environment. . FEMALES I think that girls-only educa- tion is really not necessary if you're only doing it because of so-called biases toward girls. I myself being a girl in grade 7 have never experienced these biases. Boys make classes funny and fun. Anyway, there’s boys in the world and biased people wherever you go so you can’t hide from them. There’s nothing wrong, howev- er, with all-girls schools. A lot of people I know go to them and they like it. If you’re going for your biases then you're going for the wrong Teason. I think that if the study shows that it’s better for girls District of West Vancouver Makes you wonder. The reason presidents such as Bush and Reagan fee] that ‘‘The people of the world respect a nation that can see beyond its own image,’ is because they have so effectively utilized their means to scare the world into pretending to like American policies and politics.
