Back in 1977, a little girl was kidnapped by nasty Madame Medusa, her bumbling henchmen and two pet crocodiles. When the International Rescue Aid Sociely heard, they selected fellow mice Bernard (Bob Newhart), a shy janitor, and an adventurous Hun- garian, Miss Bianca (Eva Gabon, to sescue the impoverished orphan, In Disney's first cartoon sequel, the two intrepid mice are again elected to locaic a missing boy named Cody (Adam Ryen), a friend to all animals in the uatam- ed Outback, The villain is a cruel poacher, MeLeach (George C. Scott} assisted by Joanna, his slithering salamander (a sort of Lizard of Oz). Like most sequels, the storyline is a thinly disguised clone of the well-received original — which isn’t necessarily bad. If there’s one thing kids like, it's famitiarity. The Rescuers Down Under is also splendidly animated, with stupendous flying sequences. I's been a long time since John Candy has been used this well, But Bernard and Miss Bianca aren’t the only mice returning. Mickey is back in the dual role of The Prince and the Pauper, a featurette that precedes the main attraction.
