Growing Tomatoes Successfully

The most critical period in the life of a tomato plant is at the time of trans-
planting. Individual plants should be carefully pulled apart by hand , caus-
as little damage as possible to the fine hair roots.

Press firmly Into prepared soil beds, but not too deeply. if the weathar is
warm and sunny at the time of planting, a few days protection is advisa-
ble, such as a piece of shingle or bottomless tin can; this also minimizes
wind burn. An old trick is to wrap the stem at ground level with a one inch
wide piece of wax paper to discourage cutworms. Full sun is best, and
keep moist but not to wet. One or two spaced applications of 6-12-12 fer-
tilizer will double your yield. A liberal application of dolomite lime before

planting will ensure a good PH level. :
