Planning consultant named

THE UNITED Way has recently appointed Susan
Varvarikos as the new planning consultant for its
North Shore division. Varvarikos has a masters degree
in social work and has served as planning consultant
for the Burnaby division for the past seven years.

She also has experience with the United Way of
Calgary.

Varvarikos will staff the governing committee, cur-
rentiy chaired by Gordon Stewart, and will work with
several standing committees, including housing,
seniors, children and youth, inter-agency forum and
custom transit.

On these committees, representatives of volunteer
and professional groups come together regularly to
share information, assess needs and develop services
and programs.

In addition Varvarikos will organize the agency
review committee process for United Way.

This procedure helps to ensure a high quality of
service of reviewing approx.mately one third of the 84
member agencies each year on a rotation basis.

At present seven social and health agencies on the
North Shore receive United Way funding.

Revitalization
funding okayed

A $400,000 capital construction
lozn from the provincial Lottery
Fund has been approved for the
Dundarave Revitalization Pro-
gram.

West Vancouver District Council
learned of the approval at Mon-
day’s meeting. A letter received
from Minister of Municipal Af-
fairs Rita Johnston confirmed the
news.

The loan term will be 15 years at a 3 °

Dundarave merchants are currently
breaking down the unit costs and
figuring out who will pay what.

“We should have a bylaw for
consideration within the next sev-
eral weeks, and be into the ground
by next spring,’’? Heaslip informed
council,

“Gordon Clark and. the Dun-
darave merchants have worked
very hard on this,’’ said Mayor
Don Lanskail.
