Cap rec facility —

gets

support

WEST VANCOUVER District Council voted Monday to
support the future ‘Capilano College recreation facility to
the tune of $60,000 over three years.

This contribution to the $3.8
million project is lower.than the
$150,000 requested last fall by col-
lege president Douglas Jardine, a
figure which was based on the 21
per cent enrolment of West Van-
couver students at the college.

“Given budgetary restraints, it
(the $60,000) was the best we could
do,’’ said Ald. Mark Sager. ‘‘It is
a smaller amount than our sister
cities on the North Shore are giv-
ing, but it reflects the use by West
Vancouverites.’

North Vancouver City has
pleiged $200,000 to the project,
while North Vancouver District
has promised $400,000.

West Vancouver District’s
$60,000 share was still considered
too high by Bill Reid of the
Ambleside Dundarave Ratepayers
Association.

cern and $60,000 is still a fairly
substantial amount of money,’’
Reid told council,

“This facility is not just sup-
ported by the province and the
North Shore municipalities. It is
also receiving substantial dona-
tions from students and faculty,’’

Sager reminded council that the
“shoe would be on the other foot’
if Capilanu College had remained
in West Vancouver. The district
would then be asking North Van-
couverites for support.
