NORTH SHORE BOWLING wetfries NORTH VANCOUVER’S Dean Jeffries beat out “118 bowlers to win the Jan. 18 men’s Western Bowlers Association Tournament which was held at Lions Gate Lanes. Jeffries had an overall! average of 216 for the nine-game event, and won first-place prize money of $1,000, the highest payout ever awarded in a regular WBA tour- nament. Jeffries bowled a 908 total, in- cluding bonus points, in the four- game match round and in the final match he rolled a tremendous 261 game to defeat Steve Butterley’s 205. Butterley finished second overall and received $650. In the WBA Pro Am event, which was held at Lions Gate Lanes Jan. 17, the young bowlers _in the Youth Bowling Program took home all the trophies. Nineteen-year-old Brian Eskesen won the event when he bowled three excellent. games of 179, 199 and 264 for a'642 total. Eleven-year-old Murray Cramer placed third with games of 115, 178 and 128. ‘Fourth place went to 11-year-old Chris Mandzuc who bowled games of 142, 116 and 144. Adam Knight, also an. 11-year- old bowler, had games of 91, 137 and 138 to place fifth i in. the tour- nament.: In the Neates Coffee Doubles League at Lions Gate Lanes, George Esary and Kathy Bennett bowled the high team total of 1,829, including handicap.
