This year, we bring you some important
safety tips from your local fire departments.
Please read them carefully!

1. Organize a family fire drill. Find at
least 2 possible exits and practice us-
ing them.

2. Install AT LEAST one smoke detector

3. In case of fire, leave your home right
away and meet other household
members outside at a pre-arranged
location. Never go back to retrieve
valuables!

. Call the Fire Department from your
neighbour's home and give them your
address. Do this whether you live in
a house or an apartment building.

. Remain calm if you cannot leave.
Rescue personnel will direct you to
safety.

. Keep low to the floor if you are caught
in a smokey area. Take short breaths
through your nose until you reach
safety.

. DO NOT open a door that is hot or
has smoke seeping underneiith it.

. If your exit is blocked by fire, remain

in your room and seal all cracks and
vents. If possible, stay in a room with
an outside window and get as many
closed doors between you and the fire
as possible.
If you must remain in a room, open a
window for ventilation. Hang out a
sheet to signal for help, but do not
panic or jump — wait for rescue help
to arrive!
