School Board has rejected
an invitation from the Park
Royal Merchants
Association for the district
to participate in Park Royal's

first Community Flea
Market.
The board voted at

Monday night’s meeting to
advise schools in the district
that the board does not
approve of student par-
ticipation in the flea market
which is scheduled for a
schoo! day, May 7, 1980.

“J am categorically op-
poséd to the children being
at. Park Royal on a school
day,” Chairman Audrey
Sojonky told the meeting.

Individual schools in the
district have been ap-
proached by the association,
schools superintendent Ed
Carlin told the meeting. He
recommended that the
board advise the schools of
the board’s position
regarding the invitation.

“If it means the par-

ticipation of the parents it is
a completely -different
issue,” Sojonky pointed out,
“but we will not approve a
program for students to
participate on a school day,”
she added.

“On a school day, students
should be in schools, not in
Park Royal,” Sojonky
pointed out.

Trustee Norman Ajlban
agreed with Sojonky but he
added, “we don’t have to
blast these people, (the
Association), with a letter.”

The board agreed that
letters to the schools which
have received the invitation
would be sufficient to in-
dicate the board's opposition
to the proposal.

Meanwhile, the board
would encourage par-
ticipation in the market by
parents, Sojonky said. And
Carlin pointed out that
parents’ association could
use the event as a fund raiser
to get money for the schools.
