BERLIN: (UPI) - Rudolf Hess, .85-year-old former deputy ‘of Adolf Hitler, will remain in the British military hospital for tests for a few days, a British spokesman said Wednesday. Hess, serving a life term in Spandau prison, was moved to the nearby British hospital Tuesday after he complained of illness., The spokesman disclosed no details of his condition. Hess,. haggard and emaciated, has been in and out of the hospital the last few years. He was treated for acute bronchitis early this year and for a mild stroke late last year. His age and precarious health continually bring demands for his release, suggestions repeatedly rejected by the Soviets. They run the prison along with the Americans, British and French, the other three Berlin occupation powers. The Russians contend that Hess is unrepentant and still considers himself ‘the rightful ruler of Germany and that his release would spur the neo-Nazi movement in Germany. Hess has said he expects to die in Spandau. Hess, the only inmate of the seven Nazi leaders who entered Spandau in 1946, has had a history of heart and eye trouble. He has been the only prisoner in Spandau since 1966, when Hitler's industrial chief, Albert Speer, was released.
