“She is very popular on campus
and we wanted to do something,’’
Says Juliet Pendray, communica-
tion coordinator for the Capilano
College Student Society.

The carnival, to raise funds for
Wishneski’s medical expenses, will
include hot air balloon rides, a
barbecue, an outdoor concert,
theatre sports and a pub night.

‘‘overwhelmed’’ by the actions of
the students. .

“It has really left me
speechless,’’ says the optimistic
ex-model. ‘It’s not the money —
even if it only raised 50 cents, it
wouldn’t matter. The fact that
they did it at all, is all that mat-
ters.”’ .

_ Wishneski says she is determined
to finish her legal assistant’s pro-
gram, despite the accident,.and her
instructors have made this possible
by arranging for her to. study from
her room at the centre.

“TI want it so bad I can taste it,”
said Wishneski, adding that she is
determined not to let her handicap
stand in her way.

“Life is what you make of it,
and I'm going to make mine
good,” she says.

“She plans to get married next
May, and she and her fiance Todd
Drake,.a computer operator at the
BC Lottery headquarters in
Kamloops, are already looking at
plans for a_ specially-equipped
house they plan to build for
themselves in that city.

Wishneski wishes she could be at
Capilano College on Thursday, but
unfortunately she will not be able
to make it.

She is still too weak.

But Karen Wishneski hopes it
will be a success, not just for her,
but for her fellow students: ‘If it
draws people closer together then
it will be wonderful.

“I don’t want people to think
what happened to me is a tragedy
— it’s not. I’m going to carry on -
and I'll be damned if I’m going to
let this get to me,’’ she said with
enthusiasm.
