Politicians need some new ideas Dear Editor: Your paper reports that North Van City council has voted fo increase taxes by 3.9% for the coming vear. Most of the blame tor the increase ts obviously laid at the door of the provincial government. We looked in vain for one ward about possible cconomies that could be made oor efficiencies that might be expected. The gasy solution seemed to be, as it always has been, saise taxes. Where is the civic leader who will lead, not merely bring forward the same old answers? It would: be illuminating to the public to know what step city council has taken to case the tax burden. We note thar while increasing, taxes the city has continued with its question: able face lifting to the plaza. Most prudent: organizations when faced with a shortfall in revenue would stop or post- pone non-essential capital outlays. This radical idea does not seem to have been considered when bringing down the budget. North Van City taxpayers are entided to more concern and consideration than they appear to be receiving from their elected representatives.
