LAST WEEK the North Shore News reported that Wal-
Mart wants to sell firearms at its Capilano Mall store. A
spokesman for Wal-Mart Canada said that only rifles would
be sold and that restricted weapons, such as handguns,
would not be available at the store. He added that there
would be a limited supply of rifles. About eight of the store’s
employees will be trained in rifle sales. But some Wal-Mart
employees were concerned about stocking the North Shore

store’s shelves with firearms, Wal-Mart, however, would not
be the first retailer of firearms on the North Shore, Gail
Branson, president of the North Vancouver Castie Armoury
store, said that while she is not looking forward to having a
competitor, “AIPs fair in love and war and competition is
healthy.” She says existing gun control laws should be
enforced more stringently as opposed to bringing in tighter
laws.
