Persons With AIDS Society, officially wel- comed YouthCo as the newest partner of the B.C. PWA AIDS Walk, held on Sept. 25. YouthCo will be one of the beneficiaries of the funds raised at the event. YouthCo AIDS Society has been formed to facilitate commu- nity development for youth issues as they pertain to HIV/AIDS and to empower youth to make educat- ed decisions about their health care and sexuality. Youth are recognized as one of the segments of the general popu- lation with the fastest increasing rate of HIV infection. While there exists a number of AIDS and youth service organiza~ tions in Vancouver, with diverse programs and services, none specifically address the needs of youth for HIV/AIDS education and outreach. Youth have often been ignored in the areas of research and educa- tion around HIV disease. HIV- positive youth feel isolated and unaddressed in many adult-orient- ed agencies.
