Shattering spree LOCAL CAR WINDOW installers were busy last week after 52 cars were broken into March 3 in the Lower Lonsdale area. Most of the vehicles had their rear-side windows bro- ken, said a North Vancouver RCMP spokesman, Stereos and money left in the cars were stolen. During the crime spree, a new Chevrolet pickup truck was taken from the 300-block of East Third Street. Police believe two males who also stole a Toyota Camry may be involved in most of the thefts, The males were foiled in the Camry theft by the car’s owner, who went down to the underground parking lot at 310 East Third St. after hearing his car alarm, accord- ing to an RCMP police spokesman. The males took off with the Camry while the owner chased them on foot at approximately 3 a.m., said the police spokesman. The car was subsequently abandoned and the two males were last seen jumping into a pickup truck match- ing the description of the stolen Chevrolet, Police remind residents not to leave valuables in cars. Security gates in underground lots should be closed and residents should make sure that no one follows their car into an underground lot when the gate is open. Truck torched A STOLEN pickup truck was torched March 5 in Horseshoe Bay. The truck, a white 1993 Ford, was stolen from Campbell River. It displayed a stolen licence plate taken _from Richmond, according to a West Vancouver Police ’ spokesman. ‘ The vehicle was set abjaze and destroyed in the 6300- block of Chatham Avenue, ’Fire investigators and police forensic officers are investigating. | Coke bust 4, 30-YEAR-OLD North Vancouver man was charged with cocaine trafficking after an arrest on Feb. 16 in the 100-block of West 14th Street in North Vancouver. ’ North Vancouver RCMP and West Vancouver Police drug squad members also seized four ounces (113 g) of high-grade cocaine in connection with the bust. Police did not disclose the type of drug used. North Vancouver RCMP were directed to the rear of the business to Jocate the man-at about 7 a.m. The man had appeared drunk to the employees, but on closer inspection, police believed he was suffering from a drug overdose, Drug paraphernalia was found near the man. The man could not be resusci- tated and died at the scene.
