West Van's Jacqui McAndrew became interested in aromatherapy two years ago. Now, when you visit Escents, she formulates oils and lotions to help with a myriad of common ailments. “Essential oils have different physiological effects,” explains McAndrew. “Eucalyptus helps your breathing. Lavender is the best treatment for burns. Other oils relieve headaches and sore muscles, - “We also have 80 cologne-free perfumed oils and 31 different soaps; plus air purifiers, books, candies and incense. “This store fits with The Market,” continues McAndrew. “Our products and ambience are relaxing, and the atmosphere at TheMarket is casual and relaxed. The Marker is a nice change for Park Royal and for West Van.” * - ver at Naturally Good Foods, Ilse Lander also offers life quality-enhancing products. Many of you have known Ilse for ' years. Thirteen years ago, the German- born Ilse left her 22-year job at Kelly Douglas and bought Grandma's Garden, which opened at Park Royal North 25 years ago and was the North Shore's first heaith food store. ' Now, Ilse and partner Traudel Gigling are happily ensconced in The Market. ; Naturally Good Foods carries anything you could want from a health food store - well-known vitamin brands, books, cosmetics, seeds and nuts, free-run eggs, teas - even organic coffee. ~ “We do a lot of research before choosing our products,” says Ilse. “So we give customers lots of information before they buy. “I've made many friends at Park Royal. We enjoy dealing with people. We listen to them, give them advice - we help but don’t push, People like that. “The store is a nice place to come te - it’s bright and clean, and my staff is knowledgeable about the body and health. “Tm thrilled to be in The Market. It’s something we needed and it’s an exciting place to shop.” oe N eit Carroll also had nutrition in mind when he founded Cin-Ful Nature, a new Market store opening this month. The 'Cin’ is for the fresh cinnamon buns which are a staple here, but it also denotes the sinful gobs of fresh berries and other natural ingredients which go into the store's frozen yoghurt, muffins and cookies. Carroll was raised in the fruit business in Scotland but left it to go into management consulting. Fle’s now back to prove that good nutrition isn’t mundane. “{ want to show people that nutrition can be fun and tasty," says . Carroll. "So I've come up with very unusual muffin and quiche recipes and t use nothing but the best ingredients.” In addition to baked goods, Carroll stocks non-dairy ice cream and fresh fruit salads. Plus, naturally, Cin-Ful has a scate- of-the-art juicer which produces freshly- squeezed fruit and vegetable juices made according to shoppers’ instructions. “My focus is freshness, health and quality,” continues Carroll,” | chink that nutrition-conscious shoppers will appreciate that. “Cin-Ful, along with the rest of The Market shops, has chat inventiveness that only small stores offer. An enclosed market is always interesting, but The Markec combines the social aspect with variety.” ohn MacNeill is now in the process of opening Pastabilities, a new store at The Market which will also stress variety. And running it is a totally new experience for itsowner, . MacNeill was CFO of Winnipeg's Chip & Pepper Wetwear, when he decided on a lifestyle change. Five years ago, this ex- Edmontonian was working as a paralegal when sie succumbed to the desire to run her own business, An avid cook, Ceci quit her job, started working in a specialty kitchen store, then bought the store. Now, she’s at The Market. Cappuccino Kitchen is a full cappuccina bar fronting a kitchen products store. - And we mean kitchen products. Ceramics from Italy, Portugal and Francs; German knives and American cookware; ' Mexican and Spanish glassware. There are * serving platters and baskets of every description, plus oadies of basic kitchen items and gadgets. And, in addition to cappuccino machines, juivers and fresh-. roasted coffee, Cappuccino Kitchen is one of the few places where you can find a butcher-block table, “| offer a unique shopping ’ experience,” says Ceci. “But service is the key - | have very helpful staff. -- “t think che most important aspect of The Market is that it provides one-stop shopping.
