Arthritis specialists to speak on diagnosis, treatment, research PEOPLE WITH or without arthritis will have an out- standing opportunity to meet 10 professionals specializing in diagnosing, treating, and researching ar- thritis on Tuesday, May 19, at 7 p.m. in the Lions Gate Hospital gymnasium. “This should be a blockbuster of a meeting,’’ said Stewart McGill, president of the North Shore branch of The Arthritis Society, which is sponsoring the forum. - The panel consists of a rheumatologist, general practi- tioner, physiotherapist, occupa- tional therapist, surgeon, resear- cher, podiatrist, socia! worker, dietician and pharmacist — all top people in their field. There will be ample opportunity for panel members to respond to questions from the audience. ‘Never before has such an im- pressive array of expertise been available to the arthritic com- munity,’’ says McGill. “There is no question that many people with arthritis on the North Shore are not aware of and do not use the full range of ser- vices available, and this evening provides an excellent opportunity to bridge that knowledge gap,’”’ he adds. Dr. David O’Hanlon, rheumatologist and medical of- ficer for the North Shore branch of The Arthritis Society, and Wendy Turner, physiotherapist in the Lions Gate Hospital Arthritis Affiliate Program, have provided advice and guidance in planning the forum and will be members of the panel. Pamphlets covering a wide variety of arthritis-related subjects will be available at no charge. Admission is free, and the public is welcome. For more information call 926-3672.
