THE FATE of Versatile Pacific Shipyards’ North Van-

couver yard is unclear following the lay off of the com-
pany’s local work force two weeks ago. Versatile iz fac-
ing bankruptcy and is under court protection from its
creditors until July 15. The company hasn’t publicized
plans for its empty North Vancouver site, but Versatile
is on record as planning to shut down the shipbuilding
