Van resident top| mechanics student : A 27-YEAR old North Van- couver resident has been named this year's top stu- dent in the Heavy Duty Mechanics program at the British Columbia Institute of Technology (BCIT). Martin William den Dek- ker, a ‘pre-apprenticeship student in heavy duty mechanics, won a $250 cash award from the Canadian Association of Equipment Distributors (CAED), B.C. group as the year's top stu- dent. The CAED award is pres- ented annually to the heavy duty mechanics student who is considered by faculty to be the most advanced and to NORTH Vancouver resident Ben Main... awarded a FEL-PRO Automotive Pro- gram scholarship. Local receives automotive scholarship BEN MAIN, a resident of North Vancouver, has been named a recipient of a scholarship from the FEL- PRC Automotive Scholar- ship Program. This scholarship is design- ed to help students interested in becoming professional service technicians to further their education, and to help meet the demand for quali- fied service personnel. Main will use the scholarship to attend classes at Vancouver Community College this year. FEL-PRO, which is one of the leading manufacturers of mechanical gaskets and chemical sealing products for the automotive after- market, has long taken an interest in the education of automotive technicians. This scholarship program awards money for use towards tu- ition to qualified students in college-level vocational/ technical programs. The scholarships are ad- ministered by the Citizen's Scholarship Foundation of America, an independent organization. Before coming to BCIT, den Dekker worked as a chokerman and a mechanic's helper at Whittaker Logging Company in Britannia Beach. den Dekker received his award at a luncheon cere- mony at BCIT’s Burnaby campus recently. The award was presented by Lucille Johnstone, CAED national president.
