SPORTS RIGHT RIDERS SUPER ROADEO Young cyclists test safety knowledge YOUNG CYCLING enthusiasts will set their wheels in motion this weekend as they test their road safety knowledge and skills at the first Right Riders super roadeo on Sunday, June 11. The event will be held at the Lonsdale Recreation Centre at 123 East 23rd Street, North Vancouver from noon to 3 p.m. The Super Roadeo, sponsored by Petro-Canada and organized by the Royal Canadian Mounted Police, «vill bring together the top winners from roadzos that have been held throughout the com- munity. Children will compete against other roadeo finalists in three age categories: from Kindergarten to Grade 2, Grade 3 to Grade 4 and Grade 5 to Grade 6, using their own bicycle. RCMP superintendent Jack Morton will also test his knowl- edge of the rules of the road and is challenging all local media to par- ticipate with him on the bicycle course. Bicycles will be provided for the media. Morton will award prizes at 3 p.m. to the winning cyclists. Other prizes in- clude a Nintendo video game, a home entertainment centre and am-fm dual cassette players. The Super Roadeo is part of the Right Riders, a national bicycle and road safety education program sponsored by Petro-Canada, which provides Canadian youth with an opportunity to learn and test their bicycle skills and safety knowledge in a safe and fun environment. “*We have seen a real improve- ment in children’s understanding of the rules of the road from operating Super Roadeos like this said Morton. “And our research bears this out that children are becoming more aware of bicycle safety.
