Cadet leader dedicated to local youth THEY COME in as landlubbering kids, clued out about keels and the finer points of knot-tying. They leave as Navy League Cadets, wise in the ways of the sea and country. A disciplined spit-polished lot. Since becoming one of the first Navy League Cadets on the North Shore 30 years ago, Lt.-Cmdr. Chuck Fisher, 42, hus seen countless kids work their way through the Navy League system. After a taste of teaching com- munications to other cadets as a leading Sea Cadet, Fisher attained the rank of petty officer first class and a ticket to Sea Cadet Reserve Training Pia. In 1965, Fisher became a civilian instructor with Royal Canadian Sea Cadet Corps Lonsdale and the Navy League Cadet Corps Honor- able Clarence Wallace 446. March 1967, Fisher received his warrant for sub-lieutenant and became an officer with the group. He was a licutenant by November, 1967. By mid-1970, after various of- ficer positions, Fisher took on the position of commanding officer. By June 1983, Fisher attained his present rank, as well as respon- sibility as commanding officer of the Chilliwack Cadet Camp and as executive officer of the officer’s training course. Fisher retired his position Sept. 12 to serve in a larger capacity as an area officer with the B.C. Mainland Division of the Navy League of Canada. As an area officer Fisher is one of four B.C. area officers respon- sible for inspecting corps in B.C. and assisting in coordinating activ- ities including corps sports days, first-aid competitions and officer’s training weekends.
