It will be filmed at the West Van Senior Citizens Centre Oct. 6, Anyone (preferably seniors) who would like to drop over about 3 p.m. is welcome to. Participants will get a chance to air their travel gripes or their recommendations in living color. So, as part of a rehearsal for this monumental event, I thought I should get busy and consider some of the problems of travel that might be unique for seniors. A couple of years ago I was hav- ing a chat with a doctor aboard a cruise ship. I had assumed since so many older people enjoy cruising that he must get a large number of patients with age-related ilinesses. Did he set me straight! First he pointed out that all three of my teen-aged daughters had been to see him with minor ailments and you wouldn’t catch any older per- son coming to him with something dumb like sunburn. Older travellers, he told me, have a good balance between common sense and health. ‘‘Sick people stay home.”’ Want to know who got most of his attention? The crew! But there are some problems that only seniors may have to deal with, Obtaining a passport: In its great wisdom, our government has decreed that some older birth cer- lificates are unacceptable.
