Puppeteers perform at Kid's Fest

internationally-known puppeteers,
entertained at the first children’s
festival nine years ago, and have
played there on three other occa-
sions.

weekend, hasn’t changed since
they opened 18 years ago in puppet
show Elephant Child.

“The Children’s Festival is
always fun,’’ said Luman, 44.

“*The festival tone creates an ex-

cited audience and it’s always a
good opportunity to get together
with other troupes and perfor-
mers.’

Instead of: working with hand
puppets, as in past years, Coad
Canada Puppets will be using a
modified rod puppet and a tech-
nique known as “‘black theatre.”

Coad explained he'll be dressed
in black, standing in’ front of a
black background manipulating
the puppets, visible by a beam of
light.

The show, called Secret Worlds,

“is scheduled for this Saturday at
1:30 p.m. and Sunday at 2:30 p.m.

Coad said the show is: targeted
for children age six and is based on
five characters. who share their
daydreams with the audience.

Coad said he himself likes the
art of puppetry. because it gives
him the opportunity to use his own
imagination tc communicate with
