Frozen water pipes

Start thawing at an open
faucet so that steam which is
generated can escape. It is
safer to use low heat, such as
supplied by a hair dryer or
heat lamp than a propane
torch. A heat lamp can be us-
ed to warm a pipe concealed
inside a wall. Use an
aluminum reflector to concen-
trate the heat.

You can wire an electric
soldering iron to a frozen pipe,
moving it along to a new point
as the pipe thaws. The heat
will travel a considerabie
distance along the pipe. An
electric iron can be used ina
similar fashion. An inexpen-
sive heating cable can be
wrapped around the pipe, to
do the job.

around the frozen pipe and
pour boiling water on them.
Continue the water in a drib-
bie to sustain the temperature.

How to Choose Colours

Light colours reflect more
light; seem lighter in weight;
make things: seem farther
away, make you feel cheerful.

Dark colours absorb light;
seem heavy; make things
seem smaller; make things
seem closer; depress you if
used on surfaces too large.
Bright colours seem larger in
area than they actually are; at-
tract the eye - are sometimes
used to draw attention away
from unattractive are distrac-
ting features.

Warm colours (reds, yellows,
oranges, yellow-greens) seem
to advance towards you: con-
vey the feeling of warmth; are
stimulating.

Coo! colours(blues, violets,
blue-greens, blue-greys) make
things seem cooler; seem to
retreat from you; are
subduing.

Fizveplace smoke stains.
Can be removed by scrubb-
ing with powdered pumice and
water. if stains are persistant
try rubbing with a cut lemon.
