Entertainment _—__ CBC SERIES Show trying to prove Canadians are colorful CANADIANS are dull and boring. ““Wrong!’? says stage director and radio producer Stephen Katz, whose file on assorted oddballs provided the inspiration for a six-part CBC-AM Radio drama series, Cranks, now in pro- duction for broadcast this fall. Cranks, a portrait gallery of Canadian eccen- trics, airs on Sunday Mati- nee, started Oct. 13 at 1:05 p.m. A reprise of the series will be heard on CBC’s Stereo Theatre, Sundays starting Nov. 17 at 7:05 p.m, Canadians are reluctant to mythologize their heroes, and artists, and individuals who don’t run with the pack; in Cranks, Katz sets out to prove that our history is as colorful as anyone's. From his file, Katz has selected six personalities “from the fiendish’? in the case of Dr. Thomas Neill Cream, our very own ‘Jack the Ripper,’ “to the fop- pish,”’- Sir ~Henry Pellatt, whose fairy tale. castle, Casa Loma, Disney setting, is a must on every tourist’s itinerary in Toronto. Out of step with society, these non-conformists ‘Serve as aliens to view the times‘in which they lived, a sidelight to our history. Each had a. personal, if sometimes distorted, vision. Cranks stars a bevy of our finest actors: John Colicos, [as museum] MEMORIES come flocding back with ihe hundreds of photographic images on display at the Vancouver Museum entitled, Lost Van- couver: A Century of Change.
