‘Visit to a kibbutz an
eye-opening experience

YEARS AGO, a friend of mine visited Israel and

worked for a summer on @

Kibbutz. Viv came

from an extremely wealthy, orthodox Jewish
home in Montreal. To say that the experience was

awesome leaves a lot out.

adventure is all about?”

She looked at me as if I’d
lost whatever small part of
my brain still functioned,

Oh well, At her age my
big dream was to drive a
Land Rover across the centre
of Australia! It took me {5
years to get her father to go
to Europe: Guess which
parent she takes after?

I'm willing to guess: that
Jewish kids might get first
preference to go to the Kib-
butz but who knows? I know
for sure that if I were 18 I'd
scream, rant and rave until
they accepted me.

And, the water in Israel is
great today.
