e To La Belle Sole for a tas had been looking forward to visiting Peppi’s after it had closed for renovations for five weeks. I made reservations for 8 p.m. on Fri- day night for four people. When we arrived we found ourselves in a long line-up behind about 12 other peo- ple. We were told there would be about a 20 minute wait — but as we had taken the time to reserve we decided not to stand in line — especially since there is no lounge to sit in for a drink while you are waiting. It seems that Peppi’s ts as popular as ever and I look forward to dining there some night but I hope when that tume comes my table will be Opping By LEN SLADE available, as booked. Now all of a sudden a deci- sion had to be made. We were hungry and without a reservation for dinner. { took a chance and recom- mended that we try the popular La Belle Sole. Everyone agreed immediately as it was close and well known for its good food. Also, as 1 did a positive review of the place about five months ago it would give me an opportunity to form a se- cond opinion. We were fortunate in that there was one table available. We were seated right away by the witty Michel Lozier. The atmosphere and decor have always impressed me. It is subdued yet tasteful. Our main courses included the sole almandine, the _ veal oscar, the New York steak with prawns and the whole fresh Dungeness crab. After dinner we ordered dessert and coffee, sat back and relaxed and commented on how weil the evening had turned out. La Belle Sole still has those two successful ingredients that I wrote about in my first review — pleasant atm- sophere and good food. The bill for the four of us, including our drinks, was $109.40. IDLE CHATTER: For those fashion-conscious peo- ple who like good food you might try to make a reserva- tion at La Belle Sole for lunch on December Sth to view the Fashion Show by Jaeger.
