No matter what you do — or don’t do — people still manage to attach a tiine-worn label. By LOUISE TURNER Kiya, a grade 11 student at Argyle Secondary in Lynn Valley, thinks the picture some people have about Lynn Valley youth is too black and white. ‘““Maybe 10 years ago it was bad,”’ says Kiya. He feels the situation m Lynn Valley has much improved since then, however. A fnend of Kiya’s, Mike (not his real name), has lived in a oumber of communities and when he compares some of them to Lynn Valley, home looks lke a garden party. ‘“*No community 145 perfect,’ Mike says, ‘‘you always have some squeaky wheels,"’ but he feels the area ts more family onmented than some. But, Mike says, when some people see a teenager in a jean jacket, a ‘Mac’ or Daytons. (boots), they still assume he’s knee-deep in trouble. “‘Ht all bowls down to your appearance." he conctudes. Kiya, Mike and ther frends used to meet regularly at one or two of the restaurants in the area A pic- ture that appeared recently in the North Shore News of a group of them outside one of these establishments, umpled they were ‘‘waiting around for something to happen "’ Mike who was not tn the picture, spoke generally of the practice. ‘“‘l may be waiting,”’ he said, ‘*but [I’m waiting to talk to my fnends."'
