[_seewserarr "The relief came twice dur- ing the past week because the / ggtenks ‘didn’t flood. 9 Concern was raised throughout the week that heavy rainfall, combined with rapidly warming tempera- tures that dropped snow levels in area mountains, would again spill creek water into homes. Residents along Cypress Creek watched thewater with considerable interest, fearing that, for ‘the third, time since. early November,. they'd be inundated. ” Of particular concern were weather reports Wednesday and again Thursday that ma- jor storm activity accom- panied by heavy rainfall was expected. + But while forecasters wer predicting as much as five in ches of rain for the mountain areas of the North Share on both nights, the storms cither passed quickly or did not ar- rive aPall. What rain there was was steady but gentile and water- SM vate oR heh. atid ‘Predicted deluge doesn’ t show ways such as Cypress Creek were able to handle the water for the most part. While there were still in- cidents of flooded basements and soggy yards, the problem was not nearly as bad as it has been in the past several months. North Vancouver District, in fact, may have been hit harder than West Vancouver, which has borne the brunt of flooding activity this year. Early in the week when rainfalls “were heavier, the North Vancouver District fire department received 14 re- quests for help with flooded basements and the district municipality anothet 13 dur- ing a three and a half hour period. Another ‘station feels thief’s FOR THE second time in a month, a West Van- couver gas station has been hit by a late-night thief. Thursday evening at 10:45 p.m. the Gulf station at 1490 Manne Drive was hit for ap proximately $1,000 by a lonc male who demanded the moncy from two tills inside the station The man, who indicated he was armed but who did not produce a weapon, stuffed his take into a canvas bag and then fled the scene on foot Police were quickly on the scene with a tracking dog but he lost the scent, leading police to believe the thief ran ' only as far as a waiting car. There are similarities bet- ween Thursday's theft and another that occured Dec. 19 bite at an E¥si¥ station located in the same area. In that incident a lone male escaped on foot after robbing the station at 10:45 p.m. ona Monday night. He, too, is believed to have ran to a vehi- cle and driven away from the scene of the crime. Police don’t however, believe there is a connection because of different descrip- tions of the thieves given by victims.
