Following studies in retail, marketing and communica- tion, she worked for Eaton's and Woodward's in Canada and Filene’s and Jordan Marsh in the United States. Her personal interests ‘include tennis, mountain climbing, jogging, skiing, scuba diving, symphony, ballet and live theatrical productions. Kitty O’Neil, who lost her hearing at four months of age, will speak on the subject) of ‘Overcoming Deafness’ on Friday evening and Saturday morning. The conference has been organized by the Vacouver oral centre program com- mittee and will be held at 4824 Commercial Street in Vancouver. In Vancouver a recently started project ts underway involving’ the community care teams to provide help for the unique problems of seniors. Hopefully some of this will focus on women. There are Many active seniors groups. and some good educational programs for those who are motivated to take = ad- vantage. It doesn’t appear so far that these have special slant for women, but this age group will gradulaly increase its political and social clout. They are still, of course, a minority, but a growing one. The U.B.C. conference on gerontology in July 1979 estimated that by the year 2000 the over-65 population will be larger than the under- 20 group. As there is more demand for better health care and a shift in emphasis of issues because of numbers, working women may even be reuring later, as may their male counterparts. This, incidentally, may solve some of the anticipated problems of finding pension funds for this growing group. Better productivity could certainly develop as women become more aware of their potential in the later years. For the present, however, we need to know more and hear more from this group.
