IN West Vancouver its a four-way mayor's race, although all the faces are familiar. In the District of North Vancouver it’s a three-way race but two of the faces will be new to most voters. The district is also the scene of the most crowded council race: 20 candidates are competing for seven seats. Whereever the race, the challenge facing the newcomers remains the same: How do I get my face and message in front of the vot- ers? In the past Shaw Cable, and : subsequently Rogers Cable, managed to stage five all-candidate debates rior to municipal elections that aired more than once. Not this time around. Instead, Rogers will be providing an opportuaity for mayoral candidates to appear once (see story below) and for council and school beard can- didates to record two-mitute speeches. Director of television programming Rob Carver says Rogers does not have the resources to provide live debates for all 21 municipalities in the region and that, with the planned programming, some areas will be getting better election coverage than in the past. Through the paper, I guess, although I never vote any- way — you never get what you want. Ken Stevens North Vancouver I think they should. It’s good for the public to see the candidates and hear their opinions, otherwise we'd only be guessing.
