Shon. "a8. Friday, January 10, 1997 - North Shore News DUN-COLORED icy mounds of snow tucked in the shade are all that remain of the biizzard of 96. Sureet-clear- ing crews, transit officials and drivers alike staggered under the weight of all that snow. Commuters were leit to carve paths for themselves on side streets while the mutiicipalities blew their snow-cicaring budgets just trying; to keep main routes navigable. The satisfacuon level was lower the high- er up the slopes we went (the British Properties and Upper Lonsdaic), but overall we're a complacent bot us North Shore types. People applauded the crews’ efforts, and trudged onward — often knee-deep in the white stuff. Council voted unanimous- ly Monday to send Coun. Ernie Crist’s bylaw proposal to public hearing this month. There are presently no spe- cific height restrictions for buildings and structures in the zone. The new bylaw proposes a building oe limit of 18.3 metres (60 ff. Staff say Sch a proposal should not significantly affect development potential. ' The majority of recent ‘construction has been below that height with the exception to get their name in the paper. of large sheds at Vancouver Wharves. Buildings greater than 60 feet in height could still be approved through the devel opment permit process. The proposed bylaw would also limit building height on the Nobile Towing and McKenzie Barge and Marineways properties at 3829 and 3919 Dollarton Highway to 12 metres (40 ft.) for an interim period during the review of the Seymour Official Community Plan. The addition to the bylaw was specifically requested as a result of objections related to building height and view impact raised during debate on the recent Cates Landing project. The bylaw, even if adopt- ed, will not control Crown- owned fand such as the B.C. Rail properties or. Vancouver Port Corporation (VPC) property. atch could, however, choose to honor the district bylaw. | Park R oyal E ye Clinic ye Eye Care Contact Lens Children's Vision Service OOD) OO . Dr. Alan R.
