AS STATED last week,
phote radar represents
a blatant, simple and
effective money-grab
opportunity for our
government.

While it is obvious that
the Insurance Corporation of
British Columbia (ICBC),
the Motor Vehicle Branch
(now aggregated with ICBC)
and the Ministry of
Transportation each require
revenue in order to function,
photo radar milks cash from
a symptom, not a cause:
Speed is not killing us, stu-
pidity is,

Most sane people prefer
to attack any given problem

-at its source. The folks in

Victoria, on the other hand,
are attacking 8.C.’s bad-dri-
ving, people-killing problem
from the fringe. If a specder
crashes it’s usually because
of a stupid error or errors.
Stupid to be speeding if
speed contributed to the
crash — but receiving a
photo radar ticket and a $100.
fine doesn’t make one a ~

"smarter driver. Angry and

poorer, perhaps, but just as
stupid.

- The problem originates in
the fact that bad, thoughtless
and/cr selfish (read: stupid)

America for its bad drivers’?
Doesn’t photo radar appear
to be an initiative of the day-
late-dollar-short variety?
Doesn't the aforementioned
list appear to be the mother
lode for any money-girabber
in Victoria who cared to
look, see, and show some
true initiative?

If Shaun ruled the world
there would be the following
changes to the Licensing
Procedure:

1) Make the Road Test
longer and more involved.
