Workplace smoke sickening Dear Editor: Jean well understand Ms. Margaret Dean's July 8 letter regarding second-hand cigarette smoke, Whilst [was volunteering at Beacon Hill Lodge in West Vancouver, Eiwice contracted respirmtory infections due to second. hand cigarette smoke in the workplace. 1 pointed this out, as well as a complaint from a fellow worker, to the volunteer coordinator (my concerns also included the residents). The answer | received was “There is no problem.” Beacon Hill Lodge was operating within the smoking bylaws, but not within the code of moral responsibility. Beacon Hill Lodge was guilty of not having the forethought to construct new offices away from the smoking areas, and guily of say- ing “There is no problem.” when Thad my respiratory infections. Bob Ford North Vancouver KYLIGHT! Local pet owners need training Dear Editor: Lynn Canyon Park is a tesource that should be appreciated by many segments of the community, As a runner, fam reminded daily that nature can co-exist with the city. [often exchange pleasantries with responsible pet owners also taking advantage of the environs to walk their dogs. But some people are in the habit of tetting their animals run loose in an unsupervised manner. If you own a large pet you soon realize that it needs exercise, Freeing the animal in the park to chase cars (your own or others) to get its exercise is hardly the mark of amature individual, Re assured that itis of tite comfort to hear you say “Don't worry, he dvesn’t bite!" when your large animal is barking and snarling at me. It is of tess consolation lo hear, as | did today: “Are you all right? Im really very sorry. He's never bitten anyone before, Bad dog.” Sure, that makes people like me feel a whole lot better. There is no reason to slam any particular breed of dog, just the dogs’ masters. It's time for the police to inerease their patrols agiin. IW you own an animal your responsibility is to that dog and anyone that comes in contact with your dog. When pet owners shirk their duty it’s time for the police to pro- tect us from irresponsible pet own- ers. Peter Fischer West Vancouver WOLFE CHEV GEO OLDS PRESENTS...
