Metropolis Dance to perform

NORTH VANCOUVER’S Me-
tropolis Dance is bieaking in the
new year with two performances
at Presentation House, 333 Ches-
terficld Ave. North Vancouver.

The evening programs, which
begin at 8 p.m. tonight, include a
new work by choreographer Anna
Haltrecht, Time Slip, and feature
three new dancers: Cari Campbell,
Anthea Browne and Bronja
Novak.

Metropoiis Dance director and
choreographer Christine Elsey’s
Taped Messages, which premiered

last year at the Dancing en the
Edge Festival, has been completely
reworked and now includes a new
original score by composer Bill
Runge of Creatures of Habit.

“The program is very experi-
mental and the dancers are very
strong,’” said Elsey.

Time Slip, says Elsey, explores
the theme of risk-taking, the idea
that people hold onto the known
at the expense of growth. -

Ski train
service
launched

BC RAIL has decided to operate a
Friday night) North Vancouver-
to-Whistler *‘Ski Train’’ service to
accommodate the growing number
of weekend skiers who are choos-
ing to leave their cars at home.

The new service will begin at 7
p.m. tonight and will continue
each Friday at 7 p.m. until March
27,

Tonight’s inaugural run will be
marked by a pre-departure pas-
senger reception at BC Rail’s
Pemberton Avenue station and
on-train prizes and give-aways,
which will be continued
throughout the Ski Train season.

Draws for Ski Train passes will
also be made at tonight’s recep-
tion.

Ski Train is jointly sponsored
by Whistler’s Lake Placid Lodge
and radio station 295.3. Daily
prize winners will be eligible to
win ski passes and a weekend for
four at Lake Placid Lodge.

@ One-way adult Ski Train fare
is $19, including GST; adult
round-trip fare is $29.

@ One-way youth and seniors’
fare is $16; round-trip is $26.

@ One-way and round-trip
children's fares are $10 and $17

Shuttle bus service from = the
