Conneli named ‘most improved

NORTH VANCOUVER tennis
ace Grant Connell has been nam-
ed the most improved male
player for 1989 by Tennis
Canada.

The 24-year-old left hander
was also named the male doubles
team-of-the-year with fong-:ime
doubles partner Glenn Michibata

of Etobicoke, Ont.

Connell dazzled tennis fans last
year with his singles performance
where he defeated world class
players such as Amos Mansdorf,
Andres Gomez and Miloslav
Mecir.

ed on the basis of a poll of more

than 300
broadcasters and
ministrators, coaches
players.

The Tennis Canada Excellence
Awards will be presented in con-
junction with the Sun Life Na-
tionals to be held this July in
Mississauga.

Bowler scores 300 game

BOWLER RON Parker notched a
few firsts Feb. 17 at Brunswick
bowling lanes.

The 19-year-old North Van-
couver resident bowled a perfect
300 game — certainly his first, and
also the first in the history of the
Lions Gate junior bowling pro-
gram.

After Parker scored his 12 con-

District Bowling Association rush-
ed out to Brunswick the same day
to measure the length of the lanes
and test the consistency of the oil
on the lanes to ensure the condi-
uions were up to snuff.

Bowling for only four years,
Parker’s perfect score earns him a
ting engraved with 300 on it from
the Young American Bowling Al-
liance.
