nephew’s wife peddles
cosmetics, and her stepson
tells the other kids grisly -
stories of a madman hacking
up wedding parties.

And that's just the groom’s side
of the family.

At this happy event, however,
there are several unhappy mar-
riages.

Larry Kozinski (Ted Danson) is
so light on his feet avoiding a
permanent career, that he has
become a dance instructor, tem-
porarily. His wife, Tish (Sean
Young), on the other hand, is rac-
ing up the corporate Jadder in a
department store (‘The Bride of
Bloomingdale’s,”’ sighs Larry),
when she isn’t listening to self-heip
tapes to bolster her sagging con-

° fidence.

On the other side of the room,
car salesman Tom Hardy (William
Peterson) ignores his spouse Maria
(Isabella Rossellini) in favor of
brawling or sneaking off with Tish
to “take her for a test drive.”

After the wedding, Maria, who
can bury ber feelings but not her
suspicions, approaches Larry to
find out if he suspects his wife of
having an affair with her husband.
The bashful Maria finds herself at-

. iracted to her cousin-by-marriage,
thanks to his charm and humor.

Their lunchtime meetings turn
into innocent afternoon picnics.
But their spouses accuse them of
having a torrid romance, an idea
that the cousins encourage as a
means of revenge.

Just to keep it afl in the family,
Larry's father, Vince (Lloyd
Bridges) takes a shine to Maria’s
mother (Norma Aleandro), who
had been married to Vince's
brother, Phil.

Usually remakes of French films
are enormous flops but this
romantic comedy is a welcome
