ANTHONY’S volleyball league completed a successful season with all four teams winning their divisional playoffs and going on to play in the Catholic Youth Association Volleyball Finals. The junior and senior girl’s teams placed first as both teams won their final matches in two straight games. Kim McCarthy of the seniors team, and Sabrina Baily of the juniors team played well throughout the entire season, leading their teams to victory. Their coach, Cathy Carter, has been coaching at St. Anthony's for the past fifteen years. The junior boys team also won their final matches in two con- secutive games. The play of Damon Campbell helped steady the team throughout the season. The consistent serving of Thomas Leslie helped the boys senior team advance to the final round. : The senior boys were upset by St. Francis de Sales of Burnaby who won the finals in two straight games. Curling champs to compete OLYMPIC GOLD medalist curling champion Linda Moore from North Vancouver and Canadian titlist Heather Houston go head-to- 5 head in the first ever women’s competition at the $55,000 Skins Game curling show. 4 Moore and her North Shore team captured the gold in the first Olympic curling evert at the 1988 Olympic Winter Games in Calgary. They also won the 1985 Scott Tournament of Hearts and world championship. On the line is $15,000 cash when the two, together with their teams, meet live on the Sports Network on Dec 7 at 6 p.m. f The Houston and Moore teams squared off for the first time ever on Sept. 25 in an exhibition contest in Kelowna, B.C. There, Houston and her crew pulled out a miracle 8-6 victory after trailing 6-1 late in | the game. Coaches soccer teams going strong , LYNNWOOD NORDIC blanked Park Royal Hotel 4-0 in recent local men’s Coaches Soccer League action. In other action, Coach House Hotspurs topped Avalon Rangers 2-0, and Olympia Goldcaps edged F.C. Germania 1-0. Molsons and Mt. Seymour Ravens ended in a 1-1 draw, while Nor- van Oldtimers defeated OK Tire 3-2. In other play, Festers narrowly beat Swan Lager with a 1-0 win. Ski maintenance workshops held j LEARN DOWNHILL ski maintenance techniques at two special workshops offered at Karen Magnussen Recreation Centre. For less than half the cost of a single ski tune-up at your local spor- ting goads store, you can attend a downhill ski maintenance clinic and learn to do it yourself. The workshop covers base waxing, edge filing, base repair and safe binding adjustment. The Tune-Up workshop will be held Dec. 6 from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m. at Karen Magnussen Rec Centre. The second workshop, Downhill Ski Waxing, covers the waxing of downhill skis. Waxing your skis regularly will protect the bases and help prevent the need for base repair. Participants are advised to bring their own skis to wax. All equip- ment is supplied. The workshop is on Nov. 29 from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m. Both workshops are taught by Barry Cleator of Vancouver Ski Ser- vices. To register call 987-PLAY.
